What each explosive costs to craft
| Explosive | Sulfur each | Bench | Recipe |
|---|---|---|---|
| C4 (Timed Explosive Charge) | 2,200 | Tier 3 | 20 Explosives + 5 Cloth + 2 Tech Trash |
| Rocket | 1,400 | Tier 3 | 2 Metal Pipes + 150 Gun Powder + 10 Explosives |
| Satchel Charge | 480 | Tier 1 | 4 Beancan Grenades + 1 Rope + 1 Small Stash |
| Beancan Grenade | 120 | Tier 1 | 60 Gun Powder + 20 Metal Fragments |
| Explosive 5.56 Rifle Ammo | 25 | Tier 1 | per 2 rounds: 10 Metal Frags + 20 Gun Powder + 10 Sulfur |
| MLRS Rocket | n/a* | - | Not craftable - looted from APC, heli and elite crates |
*MLRS rockets are not craftable - they’re looted (APC, heli, elite crates) and fired from the Launch Site MLRS. Torch: 1 wood + 1 cloth, zero sulfur. Recipe chain: 1 Explosives = 50 gun powder + 10 sulfur + 3 low grade + 10 metal frags = 110 sulfur; gun powder = 20 sulfur + 30 charcoal per 10.
How to read this chart
Counts are minimums: ceil(target HP ÷ damage per explosive). A partially damaged wall still blocks, so you always round up. Sulfur figures use raw crafting cost per explosive - the full ingredient chains are on the methodology page.
Found a count that doesn’t match your in-game test? Report it - charts rot when the game patches, and we’d rather be corrected than confident.
Frequently asked questions
How many rockets for an armored wall?
15 rockets = 21,000 sulfur. An armored wall has 2,000 HP and takes 137.575 rocket damage: 15 × 137.575 = 2,063 ≥ 2,000, while 14 rockets leave it standing with 74 HP.
How many rockets for a sheet metal door?
2 rockets (250 HP ÷ 220.375 = 1.13 → 2) = 2,800 sulfur. It’s the classic opener. Cheaper on paper: 63 explosive rounds = 1,575 sulfur, or 4 satchels = 1,920.
How many satchels for a garage door?
9 satchels = 4,320 sulfur (600 HP ÷ 70). Explosive ammo needs 150 rounds (3,750 sulfur) - cheaper in sulfur if you have a rifle and the time.
What breaks a tool cupboard fastest?
Any single explosive: 1 C4, 1 rocket, 1 satchel or even 4 beancans (TC has 100 HP). Cheapest: 10 explosive rounds. Most raiders just melee it or use whatever they’re carrying.
Why do explosive ammo cells show two numbers?
Format is strong side / weak side. Explosive rounds deal bullet damage too, and bullets bite harder into the weak face of walls - 173 vs 185 rounds on a stone wall. Explosion-only charges don’t care about side.
